Eastern Michigan University (EMU) student-athletes have achieved a new record with a cumulative GPA of 3.438 following the Fall 2024 semester. This marks the 30th consecutive semester that EMU athletes have maintained a GPA above 3.0.

The university's athletic department, comprising 500 student-athletes, recorded a fall semester GPA of 3.397. This figure is the third-highest since records began in the fall of 1999, slightly lower than the Fall 2023 mark of 3.404. The cumulative GPA for Fall 2024 surpassed the previous best of Winter 2024 by a margin of 0.007.

"I'm incredibly proud of the academic performance of our student-athletes," stated Scott Wetherbee, Vice President/Director of Athletics at EMU. "This success is a reflection of highly committed and hard-working student-athletes and our department's dedication to academic excellence."

In total, there were 57 EMU student-athletes who achieved perfect GPAs last semester, with soccer leading with nine individuals attaining this distinction.

Furthermore, an impressive 78 percent (392) of EMU student-athletes earned a GPA of at least 3.0 for the semester, and all sports teams had term GPAs above this threshold.

Soccer led all sports with a term GPA of 3.772 on EMU's scale, followed by lacrosse at 3.732 and gymnastics at 3.707. Volleyball and swimming & diving rounded out the top five programs for the fall semester.

Both women's basketball (3.510) and football (3.187) exceeded their previous semester standards, while baseball achieved its second-best mark with a GPA of 3.514.

Overall, about 72 percent of EMU athletes maintain cumulative GPAs above 3.0.
