Eastern Michigan University's men's basketball team emerged victorious against Bowling Green State University in a Mid-American Conference matchup, with a final score of 68-62. The game took place at the Stroh Center on Saturday, January 18.
Jalen Terry from Flint, Michigan, contributed significantly to Eastern's win with 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. His performance was highlighted by a crucial three-point shot that secured a six-point lead for Eastern with just 14 seconds remaining. Arne Osojnik from Ljubljana, Slovenia, recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high of 11 rebounds. He also matched his personal bests with three steals and two blocks. Christian Henry from Chicago led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points.
The game began with Bowling Green taking an early lead of 5-0 before Eastern responded strongly with a 21-7 run. This gave them their largest lead of the game at 21-12 during the first half. By halftime, Bowling Green had narrowed the gap to three points, trailing Eastern 29-26.
In the second half, Bowling Green initially took the lead but Eastern quickly regained control through key plays by Osojnik and Henry. A pivotal moment came when Terry completed a three-point play to extend Eastern's lead to nine points late in the game. Despite a strong comeback attempt by Bowling Green, Da'Sean Nelson's free throws and Terry's decisive three-pointer ensured Eastern's victory.
With this win, Eastern Michigan improved its record to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Bowling Green moved to 7-10 overall and held the same conference record.
Osojnik’s double-double was noted as Eastern’s third of the season. Previously, Nelson scored a double-double against Wright State on December 21st, and Jalin Billingsley achieved one against Siena Heights on November 8th.
Eastern has now won at Bowling Green for the first time since January 10th, 2017. The team continued its streak of hitting at least one three-pointer in consecutive games since January 24th, 2004.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will face Ohio University next Tuesday at George Gervin GameAbove Center.
