The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) recently announced that Central Michigan University (CMU) is among 38 providers to receive accreditation for their educator preparation programs. The CAEP Accreditation Standards are rigorous, nationally recognized benchmarks developed to ensure excellence in educator preparation.
“Receiving this honor reflects the dedication of CMU faculty and staff, strong support from Birth – grade 12 educational partners, and a shared commitment by CMU students to develop professional skills and dispositions necessary for educators in the 21st century,” said Dr. Jillian Davidson, Director of Educator Preparation Programs at CMU. “With national CAEP accreditation, we demonstrate to communities the value and quality of our programming and make clear our ongoing commitment to our program’s mission of creating an equitable, inclusive, and just society by transforming CMU students into tomorrow’s educational leaders and innovative professionals.”
CAEP is a nationally recognized accrediting body for educator preparation that accredits providers at both initial and advanced levels. Accreditation is a nongovernmental activity based on peer review that serves dual functions: assuring quality and promoting improvement. CAEP operates as a unified accreditation system aimed at raising the performance of all institutions focused on educator preparation.
“These institutions meet high standards so that their students receive an education that prepares them to succeed in a diverse range of classrooms after they graduate,” said CAEP President Dr. Christopher A. Koch. “Seeking CAEP Accreditation is a significant commitment on the part of an educator preparation provider.”
The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation advances excellence in educator preparation through evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement to strengthen P-12 student learning.
