Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) has expressed his support for the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) following a vote in favor of the legislation. In a statement, Moolenaar highlighted the bill's focus on supporting military personnel and addressing challenges posed by China.
“This legislation is a significant commitment to our brave men and women in uniform and refocuses military leadership on its mission to defend the American people and deter military aggression posed by our foremost adversary, the Chinese Communist Party," said Moolenaar. He noted that the bill includes provisions such as a 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers, actions against Chinese-made drones, and measures to protect American research from Chinese Communist Party influence. The act also aims to cut $31 billion from inefficient programs.
The NDAA incorporates several provisions related to China, advocated by members of the Select Committee. These include full funding for the Joint Training Team to bolster partner forces against Chinese aggression, potential restrictions on products from drone manufacturer DJI in the U.S., and initiatives like establishing a National Security Capital Forum. Additionally, it restricts Department of Defense collaboration with certain Chinese entities and prohibits DoD support for entertainment companies complying with CCP censorship.
The bill also calls for a feasibility study on defense industrial agreements with Taiwan to enhance supply chain resilience.
