The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) women's basketball team is set to face a significant challenge as they travel to South Bend, Indiana, to compete against the University of Notre Dame. The game is scheduled for Sunday, December 15, at 2 p.m. and will take place at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.
After securing their first win of the season against Xavier University with a score of 72-60, EMU aims to build on this momentum under Head Coach Sahar Nusseibeh. The victory marked Nusseibeh's first win as head coach of EMU after trailing by 20 points at halftime. The Eagles executed a remarkable comeback with a 50-17 run in the second half.
Leading the Eagles' charge is Sisi Eleko, who has been named MAC Player of the Week for her outstanding performances. Eleko averaged 27 points and 10.5 rebounds over her last two games and leads both scoring and rebounding in the MAC.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish come into this matchup with an impressive record of 8-2 overall and have already claimed victories over top-ranked teams such as Texas and UConn. Offensively led by Hannah Hidalgo with an average of 25 points per game, Notre Dame poses a formidable challenge for EMU.
Historically, EMU has struggled against ranked opponents, holding an all-time record of 0-18 against teams appearing in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings. They also have yet to secure a victory against Notre Dame in four previous meetings.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will participate in the UTRGV Holiday Classic next week before continuing their season campaign.
