Chairman John Moolenaar has expressed serious concerns following revelations that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) chips have been used in Huawei's artificial intelligence accelerators. This development is seen as a significant breach of U.S. export controls.

Moolenaar stated, “Reports that cutting-edge TSMC-manufactured chips have contributed to Huawei’s AI development represent a catastrophic failure of US export control policy." He emphasized the strategic importance of AI accelerators in the technology competition with China and warned about the potential national security implications.

He further insisted, "Congress needs immediate answers from both BIS and TSMC about the scope and volume of this disaster." The chairman called for urgent measures by the U.S. government to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
