In a recent appearance on NewsNation, Chairman John Moolenaar of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party discussed his legislative initiative aimed at revoking China's Permanent Normal Trade Relations status. The legislation seeks to create a more equitable trade environment for American businesses.

Moolenaar outlined the objectives of the Restoring Trade Fairness Act during his interview. He stated, "Our plan is to revoke the permanent normal trade relationship status of China. Since China entered this agreement with the United States and the world, they've cheated on every aspect. They've stolen intellectual property, they've committed all sorts of violations, dumping over capacity, and they simply are not a favored trading partner. We shouldn't give them that privileged position."

The proposed legislation also includes recommendations for tariffs on sensitive technologies and sectors to address these issues. Moolenaar expressed confidence in President Trump's approach to managing trade relations with China: "I can tell you that conceptually, he wants to be tough with China and make sure this relationship is put in the right direction."

He emphasized the importance of resetting trade relations and highlighted how tariffs could play a critical role in protecting strategic technologies. Moolenaar added, "My hope is that we'd have more supply chains, more manufacturing, more job creation here in the United States to lessen our dependence on the Chinese Communist Party."

This legislative effort underscores ongoing concerns about trade practices between China and the United States.
