Chairman John Moolenaar of Michigan has commented on the upcoming meeting between President Joe Biden and General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Chinese Communist Party. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit this Saturday.
Moolenaar emphasized the importance of this meeting as a chance for President Biden to demonstrate the United States' determination globally. He stated, “President Biden’s meeting with Xi Jinping is an opportunity to affirm the United States’ resolve on the world stage."
He urged President Biden to address several key issues during his discussions with Xi Jinping. These include confronting China's military actions in the Indo-Pacific region, addressing its role in funding fentanyl that crosses U.S. borders, and making it clear that attacks on American critical infrastructure will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, Moolenaar stressed that American financial resources should not support China's military expansion, technological pursuits, or ongoing human rights violations. He expressed hope that President Biden would use this occasion to convey America's strength and unwavering commitment to its allies and partners, particularly Taiwan.
The statement reflects concerns over various geopolitical issues involving China and highlights expectations for firm diplomatic engagement from the U.S. administration.
