Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has appointed Tom Gimm as the new Head Diving Coach for its Swimming & Diving program, as announced by Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins on June 20.
"I am ecstatic to have Tom join our staff. He has developed divers from all ages and all platforms to some of the highest levels the sport has to offer," said Perkins. "His interconnectedness with club and college coaching experience will bode well for the future of EMU Swim and Dive. I am thrilled to work with Tom and I cannot wait for our team to officially meet him."
Gimm expressed his gratitude, stating, "I would like to thank Coach Perkins along with Scott Wetherbee and Stacie McMullen for this wonderful opportunity to serve Eastern Michigan University as the Diving Coach. EMU has a strong diving history and I look forward to continuing that path of excellence for the current and future athletes."
A native of Shoreview, Minnesota, Gimm previously served as the Head Diving Coach/Director of Diving Operations for Moss Farms Diving in Moultrie, Georgia. Under his leadership, Moss Farms' Flying Tigers placed second in the 2024 USA Diving Zone B Championships. He also coached high school standout Tuck Gregory to a Georgia High School Association Individual State Championship in 2024.
In recent years, Gimm's athletes have achieved significant success. In 2023, he mentored ElliReese Niday to victories in multiple events at the Pan American Championships and led five athletes to top-12 finishes at the Junior National Championships (JNC). His divers also performed well at various national competitions.
Gimm's previous roles include coaching positions at Mile High Diving Club (2018-19), Ohio University (2016-18), Kentucky Diving Club (2011-16), and Transylvania University (2011-15). His extensive experience includes developing numerous state champions and NCAA qualifiers.
Both Gimm and Perkins are alumni of the University of Kentucky, where they were student-athletes in swimming & diving. Gimm graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.
Outside his professional life, Gimm enjoys golf and music. He is married to Emily, a fellow diver, and they have two children.
