Mackenzie Blackwell of the Eastern Michigan University lacrosse team has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference on April 9. Just a day earlier, Blackwell received recognition as the MAC Offensive Player of the Week following her performance on the field.
Blackwell has made significant contributions to her team, scoring eight goals on 14 shots and recording a pair of hat tricks. She scored three goals against No. 16 Michigan and five goals in a victory over the Titans, achieving a total of 42 goals this season. This places her seven goals shy of her own school record set last year. Blackwell has now recorded 10 hat tricks this season, tying her school record, and 27 career hat tricks. She leads the MAC in both total goals and goals per game average.
This academic award marks Blackwell's first and the first received by any member of the EMU lacrosse team since the program began in 2023. Eligible student-athletes must have completed a year at the institution, maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and display athletic achievement. Blackwell is the third EMU student-athlete to be honored this year and the second female recipient after Olivia Westphal, a women's basketball player, received the award on November 13.
Looking ahead, the Eastern Michigan Eagles will play two games this week. They host the University of Oregon on April 11 at Scicluna Field and travel to face Kent State University on April 13. For updates, fans can visit EMUEagles.com or follow the team on social media.
