Congressman John Moolenaar and over 30 members of Congress have called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to provide answers regarding the Department of Justice's response to pro-Hamas demonstrations that have taken place across the United States. These demonstrations occurred following Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7 and have raised concerns about violence and intimidation against people in both Israel and the United States.

In a letter addressed to Attorney General Garland, Moolenaar and his colleagues expressed their concerns about the coordinated activities supporting Hamas and the endangerment of citizens. They emphasized that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, these activities have no place in a lawful society. They called on the Department of Justice to investigate Hamas supporters in the United States and the perpetrators of anti-Semitic violence.

The lawmakers highlighted the discrepancy in the Department of Justice's response to recent events. They pointed out that while the department had issued a memo regarding threats of violence and intimidation at school board meetings, no similar action had been taken in response to the increase in anti-Semitic violence and the public rallies in support of Hamas, a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.

The letter also posed several questions to Attorney General Garland, seeking clarity on the Department of Justice's actions and strategies. The questions included inquiries about ongoing investigations into pro-Hamas organizations, coordination between federal and local law enforcement agencies, steps taken to address hate speech and incitement to violence, and efforts to protect Jewish students and prevent pro-Hamas events from threatening public safety.

The lawmakers concluded the letter by expressing their expectation of a response from Attorney General Garland, emphasizing the importance of accountability to the American people and the Constitution.

The demands made by Congressman Moolenaar and the other members of Congress highlight the growing concerns surrounding pro-Hamas activities in the United States. As the nation grapples with the aftermath of Hamas's attack on Israel, it is crucial for law enforcement agencies to investigate and address any potential threats posed by individuals or groups supporting Hamas. The Department of Justice plays a critical role in ensuring the equal application of the law and safeguarding national security. It is imperative that appropriate measures are taken to protect citizens and uphold the values of a lawful society.

The response from Attorney General Garland to these demands will shed light on the Department of Justice's approach to investigating and addressing pro-Hamas activities and anti-Semitic violence. The American people and the lawmakers who have raised these concerns await the Attorney General's response with keen interest.
