Reports indicate that these cyber actors have compromised over a dozen telecom providers in the United States. This breach reportedly allowed them to access real-time phone call audio and text messages while stealing data from millions of Americans. Federal authorities have labeled this effort as a "broad and significant cyber espionage campaign."

The targets of this alleged attack include high-profile figures such as President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, along with staffers from Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign. However, the full extent of those affected remains unclear.

Moolenaar and Green emphasize that this intrusion should not be unexpected given past CCP activities within U.S. borders.
