Congressman John Moolenaar is backing a bill aimed at halting Iran's access to $6 billion in sanctioned funds that the Biden administration had planned to release. The move comes in response to the recent attacks carried out by Hamas terrorists in Israel, which resulted in the deaths of at least 27 Americans and hundreds of Israelis. Moolenaar believes that Iran, as the largest state sponsor of terrorism, should not be given access to these funds.

"Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorist activities in the world, killing innocent people, including Americans. It was disgraceful for President Biden to even promise this $6 billion to Iran in the first place. I am supporting this legislation because it will ensure the funds are permanently frozen and that Iran will never have them," said Moolenaar.

The legislation, led by Congressman August Pfluger, has gained support from over 100 members of Congress. Additionally, Moolenaar has signed a letter to President Biden, along with more than 90 other members of Congress, urging immediate action on the issue. The letter, spearheaded by Congressman Mike Gallagher, highlights the Iranian regime's support for terrorist groups and their hostile actions towards Israel.

The letter states, "Recent reports of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) involvement in planning and giving the 'final go-ahead' for Hamas’s terrorist war on Israel demands an immediate response. Left unaddressed, the Iranian regime’s continued support for terrorist groups and attempts to wipe Israel off the map will only grow more brazen and more destabilizing for the region."

The letter also expresses concern over the release of $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran in exchange for American hostages. It warns that these funds could be used to further fuel the terrorist war against Israel, fund other terrorist proxies in the region, and accelerate Iran's nuclear buildup.

"To prevent Iran from accessing tens of billions of dollars to further subsidize this terrorism, we are requesting that you take immediate action," the letter implores President Biden. Among the proposed actions are freezing the released funds, enforcing sanctions on Iranian oil exports to China, and preventing Iran from accessing further funds from the International Monetary Fund.

Moolenaar and his fellow signatories emphasize their unwavering support for Israel's security and express their readiness to work with President Biden to take strong, bipartisan action against the Iranian regime.

In summary, Congressman John Moolenaar is backing legislation to freeze $6 billion in sanctioned funds that were set to be released to Iran. This move is in response to the deadly attacks carried out by Hamas terrorists in Israel. Moolenaar, along with other members of Congress, has also signed a letter urging President Biden to take immediate action to prevent Iran from accessing funds that could be used to further support terrorism.
