State Rep. Tom Kunse of Clare has reiterated his support for the Auditor General in Michigan amidst what he deems as baseless attacks from Michigan Democrats. Kunse criticized the partisan nature of the attacks, highlighting the importance of maintaining the nonpartisan nature of the Auditor General's office.
Kunse questioned the actions of Michigan Democrats, stating, "I’m curious to know what Michigan Democrats think the auditor general should have done differently in this situation." He emphasized the expertise of the Auditor General in conducting internal reviews of government agencies and stressed the significance of bipartisan cooperation in crafting audit requests.
In response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer's proposed budget cut to the Auditor General's office, Kunse expressed concern about the potential impact on oversight and federal funding. He emphasized the vital role of the Auditor General in uncovering failures within the administration, calling for a focus on facts rather than partisan agendas.
Kunse underscored the importance of rising above partisan politics in matters of oversight and ethics, stating, “If there is ever a place in Lansing where we should rise above petty partisan politics, it should be oversight and ethics.” He urged a constructive dialogue based on factual accuracy and defended the integrity of the Auditor General's reports.
