State Representative Tom Kunse has announced an art competition for students in the 100th House district, which he represents. The contest is open to students from first to twelfth grade and will focus on the theme "Celebrating Rural Michigan through Art."

Rep. Kunse expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “I’m really looking forward to seeing how our talented students harness the beauty of Northern Michigan.” He added that the district offers numerous inspiring locations for young artists.

Students interested in participating must submit a photo of their artwork by April 1. Submissions should include the student's name, grade, school, parents' contact information, and home address. Entries can be sent via email to [email protected].

The competition will have two winners: one from grades one through eight and another from grades nine through twelve. Winning artworks will be displayed in Rep. Kunse's office in Lansing.

Eligible submissions must be two-dimensional and created using specific mediums such as oil, acrylic or watercolor paintings; colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels or charcoal drawings; two-dimensional collages; lithographs, silkscreen or block prints; or mixed media involving more than two mediums like pencil and watercolor.

For those unsure about their state House district residence, they can find this information on the state House website.

Rep. Kunse serves Mecosta, Osceola, and parts of Lake and Clare counties within the 100th House District.
