CBPU Named 2021 Community Strong Award Recipient

College announcement 01

City of Coldwater issued the following announcement on Jan 6.

The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) is proud to announce that they are the recipient of Tantalus’ 2021 Community Strong Award. Tantalus’ Community Strong Award aims to recognize a public utility that supports programs that make their community a better place to live and work. The CBPU won this award for its active ethernet fiber to the premise project, GIG City Michigan. As the third recipient of this award, the CBPU is thankful for GIG City Michigan and the impact that it has had on the Coldwater community. The 17 node locations that will be located in Coldwater will have three available communication paths. So, traffic will have two available paths out if one node line is damaged, increasing total uptime. To date, four nodes are currently online, and over 250 locations have connected to GIG City Michigan’s GIG fiber internet.

Other benefits of the ethernet fiber to the premise project include two public wifi access spots with near GIG speeds and five community webcams installed for all to enjoy. In addition, GIG City Michigan, powered by the CBPU, offers affordable active ethernet fiber to residents with asymmetrical GIG service for $59.99/mo and its business customers the same service level for $79.99/mo. GIG City Michigan demonstrated that the CBPU and the City of Coldwater are community strong because the active ethernet fiber to the premise project improves internal technologies, adds reliability to the utility and City, and, improves the quality of life for citizens and customers.
