Bill G. Schuette, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, announced on social media that his bill to ensure the Home Heating Tax Credit is adjusted for inflation passed the state House with bipartisan support. In a post dated August 19, 2025, Schuette stated: "Glad that the Michigan House today passed with bipartisan support my bill that ensures the Home Heating Tax Credit continues to be adjusted for inflation. I hope the Senate takes up this important legislation before 08/31 when the credit is calculated."
Later on August 19, Schuette commented on representation issues in certain Michigan districts: "I would tell you to call your Senator and ask them to support HB 4353…but if you live Midland, Bay or Saginaw…you don’t have one!" This refers to ongoing vacancies in Senate seats representing these areas.
On August 20, Schuette further emphasized bipartisan cooperation and government responsiveness: “This is exactly what responsive government looks like — identifying a problem, working across the aisle, and getting a solution in place before it hurts people,” Schuette said.
The Home Heating Tax Credit program assists low-income households in Michigan with their winter energy bills. Adjusting this credit for inflation aims to maintain its effectiveness as costs rise over time.
Midland, Bay, and Saginaw counties currently lack representation in the state Senate due to unfilled vacancies. Residents of these areas are temporarily unable to contact a sitting senator regarding legislative matters such as HB 4353.
