Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) responded to recent media reports about China's efforts to have the United States remove national security restrictions on Chinese investments.
In his statement, Moolenaar said, “China is a foreign adversary that routinely cheats on its deals with America and it failed to fulfill its agreements with President Trump in his first term. China’s true desire is to take advantage of our country’s industry and knowledge, stealing innovation and threatening jobs. China has weaponized its own market and companies against us for decades, and we cannot allow those companies to have more access to our economy. Hardworking Americans have rejected Chinese companies coming into their communities and they want to protect our country, not weaken restrictions on Chinese investment.”
The comments come as discussions continue over U.S. policies aimed at protecting American industries from what lawmakers describe as predatory economic practices by China.
