As Easter is observed in the United States and around the globe, Chairman Moolenaar issued a statement reflecting on religious freedom, particularly focusing on challenges faced by Christians in China.
Chairman Moolenaar emphasized the significance of Easter, stating, "This Easter, I join millions of people around the world in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. I will always be thankful for Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and for the right I have as an American to worship and celebrate his victory over the grave."
He highlighted the contrasting situation for Christians in China, asserting, "Today, Christians in China cannot do the same, yet they courageously carry the light of Jesus even as they are surrounded by the darkness of oppression from the Chinese Communist Party."
Moolenaar criticized the actions of the Chinese Communist Party, mentioning that they "persecute Christians, put them on trial, jails them without cause, and forces them to worship in secret." He connected this to historical religious persecution, likening it to the experiences of "Jesus’s first disciples."
Concluding his message, Chairman Moolenaar expressed hope for change, declaring, "It is my prayer that one day people in China will enjoy freedom of religion, and I have faith that America’s freedoms and founding principles will prevail in our nation’s competition against the CCP."
