Chairman John Moolenaar has issued a statement in response to recent developments in Hong Kong's legal proceedings. This follows the sentencing of 45 activists to prison terms of up to ten years and the continuation of Jimmy Lai's trial.

Moolenaar expressed strong disapproval, stating, "This week saw Hong Kong authorities, acting at the behest of the CCP, impose harsh and unjust prison sentences against courageous pro-democracy Hong Kongers. Whether it be the sentencing of the Hong Kong 47 or the resumption of the show trial against Jimmy Lai, it is clear that Hong Kong’s legal system has been degraded and is controlled by the CCP."

He called for action from U.S. officials, urging "the State Department to sanction the Hong Kong officials, prosecutors, and judges responsible for these unjust court proceedings."

The statement highlights ongoing concerns regarding judicial independence in Hong Kong under Chinese influence.
