Students, faculty, and alumni of Central Michigan University's Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program marked the 20th anniversary of their accreditation by honoring founding director Suzanne Cross. The celebration on October 16th provided an opportunity to share stories about how the program has prepared participants for their professional careers.

During the event, faculty members emphasized the program's commitment to justice and rural social work practice. Program Director Susan Grettenberger highlighted a recent initiative to train social workers as child welfare workers under the pilot Title IV-E program. Faculty member Lissa Schwander expressed hopes for introducing a social work graduate degree in the future.

Several BSW alumni spoke at the event. Among them was current faculty member Val Austin, along with Claire (Blouin) Crowe, James Rawson, MoniQue Miller, and Lauryn Kelly. They shared their experiences and how the program equipped them for their careers. Sara Dalman, president of the Student Social Work Association, praised the BSW program and discussed her various opportunities at CMU.

The Council on Social Work Education initially accredited CMU’s BSW program in February 2004. This year's celebration coincided with another successful accreditation reaffirmation in 2024.
