As part of Central Michigan University's (CMU) efforts to enhance digital literacy and encourage the use of Adobe programs on campus, several workshops are being offered this fall. These sessions, led by librarian Katie Edmiston, are available to any CMU student, staff, or faculty member.

The workshops are conducted in a hybrid format and span two hours. Participants receive a beginner-level introduction to a specific Adobe application, learn about potential projects they can complete with the software, and have the opportunity to ask questions in a hands-on setting.

A CMU staff member commented on their experience: “I didn't know anything about Adobe Express before the training but feel equipped to use it in our office from here on out.”

Among the workshops offered this fall is an introduction to Adobe Express. This design program is user-friendly for beginners and can be utilized for creating flyers, presentations, reports, social media posts, webpages, and more. There is also an introductory session for Adobe Photoshop aimed at teaching basic photo-editing capabilities.

A CMU student expressed their satisfaction: “I loved how easy Adobe Express was to use. I can definitely see myself using it for research presentations and maybe to create a newsletter for my STEM group.”

Since becoming an Adobe Creative Campus in 2020, CMU provides free access to all Adobe design programs such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator for its community members regardless of their major or job description.

To further support its Creative Campus status achieved in 2020, CMU Libraries established the Adobe Digital Lounge. Situated on the second floor of the library, this space serves as a collaborative area where campus members can get assistance with Adobe programs and work on digital or multimedia projects using new technology and equipment.

For those interested in exploring different Adobe programs or needing project support, the Adobe Digital Lounge offers drop-in help hours or assistance via email at AdobeDigitalLoungeStaff@groups.cmich.edu.
