Central Michigan University has initiated the search for its 16th president with the release of a Presidential Leadership Profile by the CMU Board of Trustees. This document highlights the university’s academic and extracurricular offerings and sets forth expectations for the future president.
The development of this profile involved contributions from about 200 participants, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community partners who took part in listening sessions organized by the search firm WittKieffer. An additional 350 individuals provided feedback via an online form.
Denise Williams Mallett, Ed.D., vice chair of the CMU Board of Trustees and chair of the presidential search advisory committee, emphasized the significance of community involvement in shaping the search criteria. "Our goal was to make the search process as inclusive as possible and to ensure we received input from a wide variety of university stakeholders," she stated. "The search consultants reviewed and synthesized all the information we received and used it as a foundation for the leadership profile."
The comprehensive 48-page leadership profile details the responsibilities of the president, opportunities and expectations for leadership, as well as desired professional and personal qualifications. It also includes an overview of CMU’s mission, vision, values, academic colleges, student support services, and information about Mount Pleasant and its surrounding area.
According to the presidential search timeline, CMU will spend summer advertising for the position while soliciting nominations. WittKieffer will assist with targeted outreach to potential candidates.
CMU community members are invited to nominate candidates by sending an email with relevant contact details to CMUPresident@wittkieffer.com.
