The University of Toledo's baseball team narrowly defeated Eastern Michigan University (EMU) with a 4-3 victory on Saturday, May 4, at Scott Park. The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when Toledo scored a single run, securing their win.
In the third inning, EMU's Logan Hugo managed to score via a sacrifice fly by Drew Jones, leveling the game after trailing 1-0. Toledo regained their lead before EMU tied it again in the fourth inning with Brendan Kleiman’s sacrifice fly bringing Blake McRae home.
Toledo took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning before Cory Taylor's RBI single for EMU evened the score once more. However, another sacrifice fly from Toledo in the seventh sealed their victory.
Key performances included Kleiman achieving his 10th multi-hit game and raising his RBI total to 19. Hugo also recorded two hits for his 10th multi-hit day of the season. On the mound, Drew Beckner pitched six innings while allowing three runs.
Saturday marked the 175th encounter between these teams, with EMU holding a historical edge over Toledo with a record of 101 wins to 74 losses.
The series will conclude on Sunday, May 5, at Scott Park.
