The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) women's golf team is set to make its first appearance in a national postseason tournament at the 2025 Golfweek Women's National Golf Invitational. The event will take place from May 9-11 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Arizona. This marks a significant milestone for the EMU Eagles as they join nine other teams in this three-day, 54-hole competition.
The Eagles' lineup includes Julianna Go, Angelica Holman, Riley Kim, Erina Tan, and Mariana Vega. These players have shown promising performances throughout the season, with notable achievements such as Riley Kim being named MAC Golfer of the Week and Savannah de Bock setting a new program record with a season stroke average of 73.1.
"The Eagles are making their first appearance in a national postseason tournament by playing in the Women's National Golf Invitational," states the press release from EMUEagles.com. This tournament is only in its third year since being founded by Golfweek in 2023.
In addition to this accomplishment, Savannah de Bock recently competed at the NCAA Columbus Regional, finishing tied for 45th. She became "the first member of the program to play in an NCAA event (regional and/or national)" according to EMUEagles.com.
The team's current ranking stands at No. 125 in the latest Scoreboard/Clippd NCAA Division I rankings. Throughout this season, EMU has faced several top-ranked teams that will compete at the upcoming NCAA Championships.
Assistant Coach Caterina Don also participated in her third Augusta National Women's Amateur earlier this year but did not advance to the final round. The coaching staff saw changes last year with Josh Brewer taking over as head coach after his tenure at Georgia.
The invitational will see EMU competing against familiar opponents such as Mercer and Santa Clara while facing Rutgers and UNC Greensboro for the first time this season. As stated by EMUEagles.com: "The field does not feature any individual players ranked among the top 200."
As they prepare for their final competition of the collegiate season, updates on their progress can be found on EMUEagles.com and through their social media channels.
