Former Eastern Michigan University wide receiver Hamze El-Zayat has signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets, as announced on May 13. El-Zayat participated in the Jets' rookie minicamp before securing his contract.
El-Zayat started his college football career at Fordham University before transferring to Eastern Michigan in 2022. Although he did not play during the 2022 season, he made 27 receptions for 360 yards and scored two touchdowns last season. During his time at Fordham, he was a three-year starter and led the team with 62 receptions in 2019. Notably, both El-Zayat and Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh attended Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan.
Since 2015, Eastern Michigan's football program has seen six players drafted into the NFL and an additional 29 sign free-agent or mini-camp deals under head coach Chris Creighton.
The list of NFL draft picks from Eastern Michigan includes Jose Ramirez, Sidy Sow, Chad Ryland (all drafted in 2023), Maxx Crosby (2019), Pat O'Connor (2017), and Darius Jackson (2016).
