Vennemann leads EMU on Day Two at MAC Outdoor Championships

Senior Linus Vennemann's victory in the 3,000m steeplechase marked a significant achievement for Eastern Michigan University's track and field teams on the second day of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships held at NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex in DeKalb, Illinois. As of the end of day two, the women's team holds second place with 47.5 points, while the men's team is tied for third with 49 points.

Vennemann completed his race with a personal-best time of 9:01.26. The EMU Eagles secured one individual championship on this day and achieved 18 personal-best performances overall—14 by men and four by women. Additionally, nine athletes advanced to their respective event finals.

In other men's events, Samuel Jeffery placed third in the decathlon with a personal-best score of 6,425 points, while Cason Doolittle finished fifth with 5,823 points. Both athletes contributed eight top-10 marks in program history during this competition. Callum Robinson and Kyle Martin progressed in the 400m dash preliminaries with times of 47.48 seconds and 47.85 seconds respectively.

For the women’s team, Saraiah Walkes moved forward in the 100m dash after finishing in 11.71 seconds. Josephine Oloye and Makiya Worthy advanced in the 400m dash with times of 54.61 seconds and 54.98 seconds respectively.

Anita Zaro achieved a third-place finish in her category with a personal-best time of 10:24.26 in the women's steeplechase event.

The standings after day two show Kent State leading both men's (65 points) and women's (51.5 points) categories.

Eastern Michigan University aims to continue its success as they head into the final day of competition scheduled for May 11.
