Eastern Michigan University's track and field teams are preparing for the Mid-American Conference (MAC) outdoor championships, which will take place at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois from May 9-11. The event will be held at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, 11 a.m. CT on Friday, and 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. Fans can access live results and daily recaps through EMUEagles.com and follow updates on EMU's social media accounts.
Eastern Michigan's men's team is aiming for their 25th MAC outdoor championship title, their first since winning in 2018 with a total of 184.50 points. That year, Hlynur Andresson was recognized as Most Valuable Performer after winning titles in multiple events.
For the women's team, they seek their 13th MAC Outdoor Championship title and aim to replicate their indoor-outdoor sweep last achieved in 2016.
At last year's MAC Outdoor Championships, the women's team finished second with 105 points while the men's team placed third with 144.50 points. Angel Gazaway excelled by winning two hurdles events and contributing to a relay victory.
Several male athletes also secured victories in individual events last year including Payne Wylie in the hurdles and Marcus Kemp in the 800 meters among others.
Following these championships, qualifying athletes from Eastern Michigan will proceed to compete at the NCAA East Prelims in Lexington, Kentucky from May 22-25.
