Congressman John Moolenaar has once again called upon Gotion, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-affiliated battery company, to reconsider its decision to construct a factory in Mecosta County. The residents of Green Charter Township have already made their stance clear, with a recall vote leading to the removal of the entire Board of Trustees who initially approved the agreement with Gotion. Now, the newly elected members of the Township Board have also voted to withdraw their support for the project.

Reflecting on this turn of events, Congressman Moolenaar expressed his disappointment in Gotion's lack of responsiveness to the will of the people. He emphasized, "One month ago, the residents of Green Charter Township made it clear they do not want Gotion in their community. Then this week, the Township Board rescinded its support as well. Sadly, but not surprisingly, a Chinese Communist Party-affiliated company has shown little interest in listening to the will of the people." Moolenaar, who serves as a member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the CCP, had previously urged Gotion to respect the election results and abandon its plans in Michigan.

The developments in Mecosta County highlight a clash between the desires of the local community and the intentions of a foreign corporation. The recall vote and subsequent withdrawal of support by the newly elected Board of Trustees demonstrate the clear mandate from the residents of Green Charter Township. It is evident that the majority of the community does not welcome Gotion's presence.

As the controversy continues, it remains to be seen whether Gotion will heed the calls of Congressman Moolenaar and the local residents. The congressman's plea for Gotion to respect the democratic process and cancel its plans to build in Mecosta County echoes the sentiments of those who voted against the project.

The ongoing situation serves as a reminder that the interests of the local community must be taken into consideration when making decisions of such magnitude. It is essential for foreign companies to listen and respond to the concerns and wishes of the people they seek to engage with.
