The World Health Organization has elected North Korea to serve on its executive board. The move has already been condemned by South Korea. North Korea’s government has committed a long list of human rights abuses, forces it citizens to work in labor camps, cuts off communication with the outside world, and regularly denies WHO personnel from even entering the country. The country is effectively a prison for its residents.

“The WHO’s decision to add North Korea to its executive board is just the latest disgrace from an organization that has a long history of politicizing its mission and siding with dictators and authoritarian regimes. I support legislation that will require the U.S. to leave the WHO and end taxpayer funding for the organization. We cannot be a part of an organization that elects North Korea to its executive board,” said Congressman John Moolenaar.

Congressman Moolenaar is a cosponsor of the WHO Withdrawal Act which would require the United States to withdraw from the WHO. He is also a supporter of the No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization Act which prohibits the federal government from funding the WHO.
