Congressman John Moolenaar, Chair of the House Select Committee on China, has expressed support for President Trump's newly announced tariffs on imports from China. The tariffs align with Moolenaar's Restoring Trade Fairness Act, introduced earlier this year, which aims to revoke China's permanent normal trade relations status.

"For far too long, the Chinese Communist Party has exploited America's generosity, stolen our intellectual property, and undermined our workers," Chairman Moolenaar stated. "President Trump’s recent tariffs and the Restoring Trade Fairness Act, which I introduced earlier this year to revoke China's permanent normal trade relations status, will finally put an end to this abuse—holding China accountable and protecting American jobs."

Moolenaar criticized the current trade framework, arguing that it enables adversaries like China to exploit loopholes, negatively impacting American workers, manufacturers, and national security. "China has weaponized our open markets against us—cheating, manipulating, and exploiting loopholes," Moolenaar added. He emphasizes the importance of revoking China's permanent normal trade relations status to prioritize American workers and secure national interests.

The Restoring Trade Fairness Act is gaining bipartisan support, with lawmakers and industry leaders agreeing on the need to tackle China's economic practices. Moolenaar and the Select Committee aim to shift U.S. trade policy towards fairness and reciprocity.
