Congressman John Moolenaar has cosponsored House Joint Resolution 45 to overturn President Joe Biden's plan to put taxpayers on the hook for debt other Americans took out to pay for college.

"Many hardworking Michigan residents decided to forgo college and instead pursue opportunities in the skilled trades. Today, they do welding, plumbing, pipefitting, and other vital services we need. President Biden wants to make them pay for the degrees and debt other people ran up at college. His unconstitutional and unfair plan penalizes people who never ran up college debt and those who paid off their loans on their own. The legislation I support will end his reckless, law-breaking attempt to spend billions of dollars with no approval from Congress,”  said Moolenaar, Michigan’s only member of the House Appropriations Committee, which decides funding levels for federal departments, agencies, and programs.

Article 1, Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution states, “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.” Biden’s plan to burden taxpayers with student debt was never passed by Congress.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated President Biden's student loan giveaway will cost taxpayers $400 billion. More information on the H.J.Res. 45 can be foundhere.
