State Rep. Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) recently joined his fellow lawmakers in supporting a bill to provide tax relief to families who have been ravaged by recent flood damage after heavy rainfall during the month of May, reports Michigan House Republicans.
According to the plan, the 2020 summer property tax relief will help families in Arenac and Gladwin counties who have sustained damage due to recent floods, as well as those who have been significantly impacted by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am pleased this plan received such overwhelming support and will quickly make its way to the governor,” Wentworth told the Michigan House Republicans website. “Between the coronavirus and the flooding, the last few months have been extremely difficult for families in our area. This plan is a step in the right direction and will bring relief to many people in our community.”
Wentworth said that the original plan was amended because it didn't include flood victims.
“Originally, these measures did not include assistance for those affected by flood damage,” Wentworth told the Michigan House Republicans website. “I fought to include help for those devastated by flooding because they are going to help so many people in need, with the economic shutdown caused by COVID-19 and the flooding.”
