On the occasion of the 90th birthday celebrations for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Chairman John Moolenaar and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and Chinese Communist Party released a statement.
The statement expressed solidarity with Tibetan Americans and Tibetans globally, extending birthday wishes to the Dalai Lama, described as "a global icon of peace, compassion, and wisdom." The committee members highlighted concerns over Beijing's actions in Tibet, including "cultural genocide, Orwellian surveillance, and interference in centuries-old Tibetan religious traditions."
They condemned the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) actions against Tibetans both within Tibet and internationally. Furthermore, they emphasized that "the CCP has no place in the succession process of His Holiness" and called for a peaceful resolution to the Tibet issue for the benefit of the Tibetan community.
