State Representative Tom Kunse has put forward legislation aimed at safeguarding the property rights of Michigan residents. The proposal would require the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to seek a warrant before accessing private property.

Rep. Kunse highlighted the current situation, "Most people are shocked to learn that EGLE can currently enter private property without a warrant." His bill, officially known as House Bill 4421, seeks to align EGLE's procedures with those of other government agencies, mandating constitutional adherence when accessing private land for inspections or investigations.

Kunse emphasized the balance between environmental protection and citizen rights, stating, "Protecting Michigan’s environment is important, but it must be done without trampling on the rights of our citizens." He believes that the bill will enhance transparency and accountability within EGLE operations and help restore trust between property owners and the state.
