The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) women's golf team is preparing to commence its 2025 spring season with the Match in the Desert on January 27. The event, hosted by the University of Kansas, will take place at the Prospector Course at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona. It features a par-72 layout spanning 6,271 yards.

Josh Brewer, EMU's head coach, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming season: "The start of every spring season brings excitement and nervous energy," he stated. He emphasized the team's ambition to be recognized among the nation's best programs despite challenges faced by northern schools. Brewer also noted that their spring schedule includes matches against top-ranked teams.

Eastern Michigan's lineup for this event includes Savannah de Bock, Riley Kim, Mariana Vega, Julianna Go, Erina Tan making her collegiate debut, and Angelica Holman participating as an NCAA Division I player for the first time after transferring to EMU.

Brewer highlighted the competition level at the Match in the Desert: "Our spring schedule is packed with top ranked teams so we will have multiple chances." Teams such as Arizona State, Baylor, Purdue, San Jose State, and Texas A&M are expected to participate alongside EMU and host Kansas Jayhawks.

Individually ranked players like Natasha Kiel from Purdue and Adela Cernousek from Texas A&M are set to compete. EMU's Savannah de Bock enters with a ranking of No. 77 nationally.

The Eagles recently added two new players: Erina Tan from Belmont, Western Australia, and Angelica Holman from Fort Pierce, Florida. Both will play in Arizona this week.

Savannah de Bock has been a standout performer for EMU. She played all five fall tournaments with notable performances including a victory at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic where she scored a school-record 204 over three rounds.

Assistant Coach Caterina Don received an invitation to compete in the Augusta National Women's Amateur in April 2025 with Head Coach Josh Brewer serving as her caddy.

Following their participation in Arizona, EMU plans to compete next month at the Daniel Island Invitational hosted by College of Charleston in South Carolina.
