Eastern Michigan University gymnast Raisa Boris has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the MAC office on January 22. Boris, a senior from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, holds a 3.93 GPA in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Comp and was also recognized as the MAC Gymnast of the Week on January 21.

Boris has previously received this honor twice in 2024. She led her team to victory at the Golden Girls Classic on January 17 with an all-around score of 39.125, competing as EMU's sole all-around gymnast. Her performance included top-10 finishes in all four events and a second-place finish on beam with a score of 9.825. Additionally, she scored at least 9.8 on bars (9.825) and floor (9.800). This contributed to Eastern Michigan's overall score of 195.125, which was enough to defeat MAC rivals Ball State and Northern Illinois and improve their record to 4-0 for the first time since at least 2001.

Boris leads the MAC with an all-around average of 39.000 and ranks first in bars with a score of 9.825 while placing fourth in floor exercises with an average of 9.838.

She is Eastern's fourth recipient of the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award during the current academic year, following football player Jesús Gómez who won it twice last fall and women's basketball player Olivia Westphal.

Also honored this week was Akron pole vaulter Hunter Garretson, who received recognition as the MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week.

Looking ahead, EMU will host Kent State for a meet scheduled for Sunday, January 26 at George Gervin GameAbove Center starting at 1 p.m.
