Eastern Michigan swim & dive triumphs over Toledo

Senior Kiersten Russell and Abby Szadorski each secured three victories, leading the Eastern Michigan University swim and dive team to a decisive win over the Toledo Rockets with a score of 175-117 at the Jones Natatorium. This victory marks EMU's fourth win in dual meets this season, maintaining an undefeated record in Mid-American Conference competition.

Russell, from Clinton, Michigan, claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.39, followed by wins in the 50-yard freestyle (23.95) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.43). Szadorski, hailing from Oswego, Illinois, contributed to the team's success by swimming the second leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay team that finished in 3:51.26. She also won individual events in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.54) and the 200-yard IM (2:13.78).

Nehir Oz from Istanbul showcased her skills by winning both the 1000-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 10:20.00 and the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.77). Her performance qualified her for participation in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association National Invitational Championships.

Azra Umut also achieved notable results with two wins during the meet; she swam as part of the victorious medley relay team and took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.21.

In diving events, freshman Taityn Speier earned her first career win on the three-meter board with a score of 264.38 while Rebekah Knapp topped scores on one-meter dives posting a score of 278.25.

The Eagles will next compete against Ohio on January 31st and February 1st.
