Eastern Michigan University's swim and dive team is preparing to host the Toledo Rockets at Jones Natatorium on January 17, 2025. The event marks EMU's first meet of the year, where they aim to improve their record to 4-1 in dual meets and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference competition.
The upcoming match against Toledo will be the 28th encounter between these teams, with Eastern holding a favorable record of 19 wins to Toledo's eight. Coach Derek Perkins has a perfect record against Toledo with two victories.
This season, Eastern Michigan's swimmers and divers have shown strong performances. Freshman Megan Lupa achieved her first NCAA Zone Diving Championships cut at the UB Diving Invite, scoring second place on the platform dive. She joins teammates Malia Maire, Rebekah Knapp, and Ciara Wheeler in qualifying for the championships hosted by Ohio State.
At the Denison Invitational in December, Abby Szadorski led EMU with significant contributions including four top-10 finishes and qualifications for the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championships.
In earlier competitions this season, EMU secured victories over Oakland and Buffalo but faced a defeat against Indiana State. Standout performances came from athletes such as Nehir Oz, Kiersten Russell, Azra Umut, and Tristen Mina.
Coach Perkins is entering his sixth year leading the program which features returning athletes like Russell and Nina Larosa who have set impressive times in their respective events.
EMU will compete next at Ohio on February 1 before heading into the MAC Championships later in February.
