Eastern Michigan University's men's basketball team faced a setback with an 82-63 loss against Central Michigan University on Tuesday, January 14, at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The game saw Eastern trailing for more than 31 minutes.
Da'Sean Nelson led Eastern's efforts with 15 points, followed by Christian Henry and Jalen Terry who scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Despite a promising start with a 7-2 lead, the Eagles struggled with turnovers early in the game. Central Michigan capitalized on this, taking a lead they maintained into halftime with a score of 39-33.
The second half saw Central Michigan extending their lead to 51-36. Eastern attempted a comeback with a 10-1 run but was unable to regain control as the Chippewas responded with an 11-point streak.
Post-game statistics show Eastern Michigan shooting 40.7% from the floor and managing only 25% from beyond the arc. In contrast, Central Michigan had a field goal percentage of 46.7%. Nelson's performance included matching his career high with nine made free throws and drawing a game-high of 12 fouls.
Jalin Billingsley contributed with three out of five successful shots and achieved a career-high four assists. Godslove Nwabude also marked personal bests with five points and nine rebounds.
Eastern now stands at a record of 7-9 overall and shares a conference record of 1-3 with Central Michigan. Historically, this result places EMU at an overall standing of 101-107 against CMU.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan will face Bowling Green State University on Saturday, January 18, at the Stroh Center.
