The Mid-American Conference (MAC) and Sun Belt Conference (SBC) have revealed the second set of matchups for the 2024-25 MAC/SBC Challenge. Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team is scheduled to face Georgia State University on Saturday, February 8. The game time has yet to be announced.
The MAC/SBC Challenge began on November 4, with MAC teams hosting their SBC counterparts. This upcoming round will see SBC teams host the MAC. In the initial series of games, the MAC secured an 8-4 lead by winning eight out of twelve contests.
Eastern Michigan University (EMU), currently holding a record of 1-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play, will meet Georgia State University (GSU), which stands at 7-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play. This will be only the second encounter between these two teams. Their first meeting was on November 12, 2016, when EMU defeated GSU with a score of 69-59 during Morehead State University's Donna Murphy Classic in Morehead, Kentucky.
In this challenge series, EMU holds a record of one win and two losses after narrowly losing to Texas State University with a score of 75-71 on November 4 in their season opener. Last year, they had a split record in the inaugural event; they lost to Georgia Southern University on November 11 but won against the University of South Alabama on February 10.
Before facing Georgia State, EMU will compete against the University at Buffalo in a home game scheduled for Wednesday, January 15. The match will take place at George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti and is set for a tip-off at 6:30 p.m. It will be available for streaming live on ESPN+, with live commentary provided by Tom Helmer on WEMU (89.1 FM) and The Varsity Network.
