Eastern Michigan University's diving team had a notable performance at the UB Diving Invitational, hosted by the University at Buffalo from January 10 to 12. Freshman Megan Lupa qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the platform dive with a score of 229.90 points.
Lupa, from Campden, Ontario, is now the fourth diver from EMU to qualify for this season's championships. She will join her teammates Malia Maire, Rebekah Knapp, and Ciara Wheeler at Ohio State University in March.
On the first day of competition in Buffalo, Maire led Eastern divers in the three-meter dive finals with a third-place finish scoring 268.95 points. Lupa followed closely behind in fifth place with 254.35 points, while Taityn Speier secured twelfth place with 238.35 points.
The second day saw action in both one-meter and team diving events. Lupa posted a personal best of 260.20 during preliminaries but finished seventh in the finals with a score of 238.05.
On the final day, Lupa excelled again on the platform dive by placing first in prelims and second in finals after improving her score to 229.90.
Lupa's qualification adds her to EMU's list of divers heading to NCAA Zone Diving Championships alongside Maire, who qualified earlier for one-meter dives; Knapp qualified for both one-meter and three-meter events; and Wheeler secured her spot through previous performances.
The Eastern Michigan divers will next compete against Toledo Rockets on January 17 at Jones Natatorium.
