The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) gymnastics team is set to kick off the 2025 season with a home meet against Bowling Green. The event will take place on Sunday, January 12, at 1 p.m. in the George Gervin GameAbove Center located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Fans can watch the meet live on ESPN+ or follow along with live results available through links on the EMU gymnastics schedule page.
Last season, EMU achieved significant scores that placed them among the top-10 in their program's history. Notably, they scored a 196.450 at Kent State on March 3, which was the third-best overall score for EMU. Their performance also included a tied second-best score of 49.250 on bars and a fifth-best score of 49.250 on beam.
For the upcoming season, Alana Fisher and Keeley Kohler have been named MAC Gymnasts to Watch by conference officials. The Eagles are predicted to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as per the preseason coaches' poll released on January 3.
In national rankings from last year, Eastern Michigan was positioned at number 50 according to Road To Nationals data. This ranking is part of a broader list where Kent State ranked highest among MAC teams at number 30.
Bowling Green, who EMU will face this weekend, ended last season ranked 57th nationally. In their previous encounter during the Bowling Green Quad on February 11 last year, EMU emerged victorious with a score of 196.100 to Bowling Green's 194.850.
Senior gymnast Raisa Boris had an outstanding previous season, earning multiple accolades including MAC Gymnast of the Year and Senior Gymnast of the Year titles after deciding to use her COVID eligibility for another year in competition.
Additionally, senior Ella Chemotti was recognized as a MAC beam champion and has held top honors in this category for three consecutive years.
The team welcomes seven new freshmen athletes this season and has added Lauren Volpe as an assistant coach. Volpe brings experience from Ball State University where she had notable achievements both as an athlete and graduate assistant coach.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan plans to debut special "Ypsi" leotards for their City Connect Meet against Bowling Green this Sunday and will host another quad meet involving Winona State, Northern Illinois, and Ball State later in January.
