Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team is set to host the University of Akron in a doubleheader event on Saturday, January 11, at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. The game will begin at 1 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with commentary from Ryan Wooley and Claire Dau. Fans can also listen live on WEMU (89.1 FM) with Tom Helmer providing play-by-play coverage.
The doubleheader marks the first of three such events for Eastern Michigan's men's and women's basketball teams this season. Following the women's game against Akron, the men's team will face off against Akron at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Eastern Michigan's Sisi Eleko recently reached a career milestone by surpassing 1,000 points during a game against Ball State on January 8. Eleko is currently averaging a double-double with 20.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, leading the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in both categories.
The visiting Akron Zips have an overall record of 8-7 and are 2-1 in MAC play following their recent win over Northern Illinois. Three players from Akron are averaging double-digit points, with Alexus Mobley leading at 13.3 points per game.
