The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) men's basketball team is preparing for a significant matchup against the University of Toledo at Savage Arena on Tuesday, January 7, at 7 p.m. This game marks an opportunity for EMU to achieve a 2-0 start in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play, a feat not accomplished since the 1999-2000 season.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live commentary from Tom Helmer and Greg Steiner available on WEMU (89.1 FM) and the Varsity Network App. Fans can also access live stats through EMUEagles.com.

Eastern Michigan's recent victory over Northern Illinois, with a score of 75-71, set the stage for this potential milestone. Senior Da'Sean Nelson led the team with an impressive performance, scoring 32 points and securing nine rebounds. Junior Christian Henry contributed significantly as well, adding 13 points and nine assists during the game.

Nelson's consistent performance has been notable this season; he is averaging a team-high of 15.7 points per game and has scored at least ten points in nine consecutive games. His contributions have earned him MAC Player of the Week honors twice this season.

In addition to Nelson's achievements, EMU boasts four players averaging over 11.5 points per game for the first time since the 1990-91 season. The team's success in close games is also noteworthy; they currently hold a national lead with six wins by four points or fewer.

Senior Jalen Terry is another key player for EMU, leading the MAC in minutes played and contributing across multiple statistical categories. His performances include back-to-back games with at least 25 points and six three-pointers earlier this season.

The upcoming game against Toledo will be their 116th meeting, with Toledo holding a historical advantage in wins. However, Eastern Michigan aims to break Toledo's seven-game winning streak against them.

Head Coach Stan Heath is guiding EMU through his fourth year with the team, aiming to improve upon their current standing in conference play. As Eastern Michigan continues its season, they look forward to further opportunities to build on their early successes.
