Eastern Michigan University's men's basketball team achieved a notable comeback against Wright State, winning 86-82 at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The game took place on Saturday, December 21.
Da'Sean Nelson led Eastern Michigan with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Terry added 21 points to secure the win for the Eagles.
The game began with Wright State taking an early lead, but Eastern responded with a seven-point run. Despite this effort, Wright State ended the first half ahead by 11 points, leading 38-27.
In the second half, Eastern Michigan came out strong with a 15-2 run, gaining a two-point advantage. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the period until Arne Osojnik hit a crucial three-pointer in the final minute, giving Eastern their largest lead of seven points. Wright State failed to convert three potential game-tying shots in the closing seconds.
Following this victory, Eastern's record stands at 6-5 while Wright State is now at 7-7. "Nelson's career-high 27 points topped his old mark of 24 against Detroit Mercy," noted game analysts. Additionally, Nelson set a new personal best with his rebounding performance and matched his career high for free throws made.
Jalen Terry recorded his third game of the season with six or more three-pointers and now leads his team in scoring with an average of 16.8 points per game.
Other noteworthy performances included Yusuf Jihad's season-high score of 11 points and Jalin Billingsley matching his career-best assist count.
This victory marked Eastern's first-ever meeting against Wright State and was their first comeback from an eleven-point halftime deficit since January earlier that year against Kent State.
Eastern Michigan will next face Davidson on Saturday, December 28 at Davidson's home court.
