The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team faced a challenging game against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, concluding their participation in the UTRGV Holiday Classic with a 67-52 loss. Despite a strong performance from Sisi Eleko, who achieved her sixth double-double of the season, the Eagles were unable to secure a victory.
In the first quarter, the Eagles started strong with six three-pointers, taking an early lead of 22-18. Mackenzie Amalia contributed significantly by making three out of five attempts from beyond the arc. However, turnovers became an issue for EMU as the Islanders capitalized on these mistakes, scoring 26 points off turnovers throughout the game.
The second quarter proved difficult for both teams in terms of shooting accuracy. The Eagles managed only 20 percent shooting and committed 11 turnovers while scoring just four points. The Islanders ended the half with a 10-0 run, leading 30-26 at halftime.
During the third quarter, Eleko added four points to her tally while five more came from free throws. Olivia Smith made a notable contribution with a three-point shot and Kyndal Lewis scored on a layup following a missed shot.
The fourth quarter saw an initial surge from EMU with Brooklyn Thrash contributing five consecutive points to reduce their deficit to six. However, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi responded with an 11-0 run that extended their lead to 17 points. The Eagles could not recover and ultimately lost by 15 points.
Sisi Eleko's performance included scoring 19 points and securing 14 rebounds along with one steal and one block. Mackenzie Amalia finished with 11 points and led her team with six assists. Olivia Westphal continued her streak of multiple three-pointers per game by adding two more during this match.
With this result, Eastern Michigan's record fell to 1-8 for the season while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 7-4 overall. This marked only their first meeting in history between these two teams.
