Eastern Michigan University's women's basketball team is gearing up for the UTRGV Holiday Classic in Edinburg, Texas. The Eagles, holding a 1-6 record, will face the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros on December 19 at 6:30 p.m. CT. This match marks their third encounter, with both teams previously tied at one win each.

"Eastern scored six three-pointers at No. 8 Notre Dame, Dec. 15, to maintain its streak of eight consecutive games with at least five triples made," noted the team’s recent performance summary. They aim to continue this streak against UTRGV.

Junior Sisi Eleko stands out with an average of 21.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, leading the Mid-American Conference (MAC). "Through games played Dec. 17, Sisi Eleko holds the distinction of being the only player in NCAA Division I to average 21.0+ points and 10.0+ rebounds this season," states a recent release from EMU.

Olivia Smith recently shone against Notre Dame by scoring a season-high of 13 points in her home state return to Indiana.

The Eagles are also looking forward to their second match during the classic against Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on December 20 at 4 p.m. CT.

Sahar Nusseibeh serves as head coach after joining EMU following her tenure with Canisius College's program.

EMU has shown resilience despite setbacks like their recent loss against Notre Dame and aims to bounce back during these upcoming games in Texas.
