The Eastern Michigan University (EMU) swim team concluded the Denison Invitational with a fourth-place finish, amassing 1,088.5 points over the three-day event held at the Trumbull Aquatic Center from December 5-7. This marks the second consecutive year EMU has secured this position in the competition.
Emory University emerged victorious in the meet, accumulating 1,979 points. Denison University followed with 1,645.5 points to claim second place, while the University of Indianapolis took third with 1,478 points. Washington University-St. Louis finished just behind EMU with 1,031 points.
Throughout the invitational, several EMU swimmers achieved personal-best times. Azra Umut stood out in the 200-yard backstroke finals by securing third place with a time of 2:01.95, narrowly missing a top-ten program record by .03 seconds.
In other events on day three, Abby Szadorski placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke finals with a time of 2:20.12. The team also saw success in relay events and individual races across various categories throughout the competition.
Reflecting on earlier performances during days one and two of the meet, EMU demonstrated strong showings in both individual and relay events. Notably, their performance included a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay on day one.
After wrapping up their participation at Denison Invitational, EMU's next competition is scheduled for January when they will participate in diving and swimming meets against Buffalo and Toledo respectively.
