Eastern Michigan University's track and field teams began their indoor season at the GVSU Holiday Open on December 6, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. The event saw strong performances from both the men's and women's teams.
The women's team achieved 13 top-three finishes and set four marks that rank within the program's top ten. Josephine Oloye and Saraiah Walkes led in the 400m dash, finishing first and second respectively. Both athletes set personal bests with Oloye achieving ninth place in program history at 54.68 seconds, followed closely by Walkes at tenth with 54.79 seconds.
Aleah Johnson made her mark in the weight throw, reaching seventh place in program history with a toss of 16.65 meters. Marta Moreno also impressed in the 5000-meter run, securing fourth place with a time of 16:31.78.
In the triple jump, Mariia Yelanska took first place with a leap of 11.68 meters, while Mariah Taylor and Nyla Joseph-Guevara secured second and third places respectively.
On the men's side, Jake McEachern won gold in shotput with a throw of 14.48 meters. Carson McCoy finished second in the one mile run with a time of 4:10.36, while Goodluck Ezechukwuchiri earned silver in high jump by clearing 2.09 meters.
The Eagles collectively achieved personal-best marks across various events including the long jump where Samuel Jeffery placed third with a leap of 7.15 meters.
Looking ahead, Eastern Michigan University will compete next at the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan on January 11.
